ROAD TO HELL
One in three men don't feel safe when their other half is driving, a study revealed yesterday (Mon).
Millions of blokes find themselves pushing their feet down into the footwell because their wife or partner brakes late.
Others regularly spend large chunks of the journey gripping the edges of the passenger seat.
One in ten said they had been forced to grab the steering wheel as the missus took her eyes off the road and careered towards the central reservation.
Yesterday (Mon) a spokesman for online market research giant OnePoll.com, which commissioned the study among 3,000 men, said: ''Most feel they are better drivers than the women in their lives.
''They believe they concentrate a lot better, read road situations more quickly and clearly and have better reactions.
''One in five even went as far as to say they were never able to relax when their other half is driving.''
The study also found one in five couples have argued due to the other one's driving.
Men's biggest complaints were that women are too easily distracted by children, scenery or other motorists.
Other grumbles included allowing the car to 'roll' from side to side instead of keeping it in a straight line and not staying away from rumble strips.
Flicking the accelerator, which results in a stop-start feel to the ride, also came high on the list as did getting too close to cars before overtaking.
It also emerged one in ten men have felt it necessary to ask their wife to pull over so they can take the wheel.
A spokesman for OnePoll added: ''I am sure women's driving can't be as bad as men believe.
''It is probably more a case that men just think they are safer drivers.
''Anyone can be distracted by things outside or inside the vehicle, so that argument doesn't really stack up.''
